Around the Weasley household, Christmas time always brings an unfortunate craziness and sense of havoc that is sometimes, but rarely seen. It has let up a bit with the children moved out, but the present-buying, and gift-wrapping has definitely not taken a break. This year as Molly is out buying the latest and greatest gadgets and toys, I decided to surprise her and wrap the ones that she already bought.

However, I decided to make it a challenge. I wanted them to wrap them the way muggles did, so absolutely no magic! I picked up the closest gift in the pile, an ever-changing Chudley Cannon replica hat, intended for my grandson, Hugo. Throughout my years of magically wrapping presents, I never figured out how the wraps end up so perfect, or how it decides how much wrapping paper to use. I had a wonderful golden hippogriff themed paper, and I wrapped the roll around the gift a few times to make sure it was secure.

Tape is a creation that is tricky to learn. The sticky end just gets caught on everything, and when it does you need to get a whole new piece. The hardest part about muggle gift-wrapping is not the tape shockingly. It is what to do with the wrapping paper on the side of the present. When I magically do it, it folds up all nice and looks very neat. Never having done this before, I spent an hour flailing around trying to figure it out before just cutting the entire excess off, and using the rest of the wrapping paper to wrap it the other way.

My main goal was to finish the wrapping before Molly got back with more presents to wrap. As much as I loved (I didn't) doing this, I was pretty much 'wrapped out' as I taped up the final gift (a Celestina Warbeck Classics Album for Ginny). Now this is where I ask you, fine readers of the Daily Prophet. No matter the wrapping job, it is the thought that counts, yes? Apparently not. I showed off my surprise, only to be told that she didn't catalog the gifts yet and that she needed to unwrap them all to do. Though, she did mention I could wrap them all again tomorrow.
